Gallery Notes - Isle of Arran
It has been said that the whole of Scotland can be found on Arran: lowland farms and moors, coastal grandeur and high, rocky ridges. Arran sits in the Firth of Clyde off the Ayrshire coast of Scotland, just an hour's ferry journey from Ardrossan, and the mountain ridges live just to the north of the busy working port of Brodick, enclosing the two great glens of Glen Rosa and Glen Sannox.
Goatfell, the high point, reaches only 2700 feet, but the ridges of Caisteal Abhail and A Cir match many loftier challenges on the mainland, and Cir Mhor is arguably the crowning glory, a rocky pinnacle barring the way across the glens.
Our journey was a short one, and there are many more hours to be spent in this place. And, as often in Scotland, the many hours of rain brought its rewards in magnificent light and clouds (and, of course, a visit to the Isle of Arran distillery!).
