Gallery Notes - Serene

Rocks and Quiet Water, Loch MorarThe thought uppermost in my mind when putting together a gallery of 'Serene' images, was that the landscape often produces its most dramatic light when it is on the move, when clouds are moving fast, when weather patterns are dynamic and we find ourselves on the edge, as photographers

However, serenity can produce beautiful and dramatic light as well. The difference, perhaps, is that is lingers, allowing us to slow to the speed of light and relax into making images. When the landscape is fast, we get into the zone and work almost unconsciously. But serenity allows us to bring the present moment more into consciousness, and to simply BE.

Yr Aran and Llyn Gwynant, SnowdoniaAt no other time am I more aware that I not DOING photography, but BEING in the landscape. Photography is not for DOING.

This gallery first appeared on Touching the Light in 2001, and has been updated with some additional images.
