Tripods or No?

You’ll know from my approach that for reasons of spontaneity and low weight I don’t use tripods, so I was very interested in this discussion on photo.net in response to my book “Photographing Changing Light”. As I would expect there are some diverse opinions, with the only obvious conclusion that there is no one approach to be recommended, except the guarantee that the tripod ensures the image will be sharp - if you get it at all, that is!
