The Great Storm 1987

It was twenty years ago today … that southern England was hit by the fiercest storm in 300 years. Gusts of up to 120mph lashed the southern part of the country, and I slept through the whole thing!! Shoreham by Sea in Sussex recorded officially the strongest winds in the UK, though it is suspected that gusts reached more than 120mph after the recording equipment was knocked out at the coastguard station.
Finding a coherent record of the event is difficult, so today I’ve set up a Flickr group to capture as much as possible. If you have any interesting photographic memories, please share them. I’ve put up about twenty of my own images also in my Flickr photostream.
